This parking garage was built in 1969. It is also known as the Spiral Garage. There are similar spiral parking structures in St. Louis, MO, Rochester, NY, Chicago, IL, and Switzerland. These structures may have been inspired by New York City's Guggenheim Museum which was built in 1959. [map] |

The Fresno Fulton Mall was built as a pedestrian mall in 1964. These fountains were installed then. The first fountain above, entitled "Obos", was created by George Tsutakawa. The fountains on the right above, entitled "Dancing Waters", were sculpted by Stan Bitters. In 2017, the pedestrian mall was opened to traffic. The 32 sculptures were all preserved. The Fresno Community and Convention Center was designed by Robert W. Stevens & Associates. It was built from 1965-1966 and consisted of three buildings: a theater, an exhibit hall, and an arena. The buildings are sheathed in oxidizing steel. The buildings now house the William Saroyan Theatre, Valdez Hall, and the Selland Arena. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map] |

This sixty-foot-tall Clocktower is installed at the Fulton Street Mall. It was built in 1964 by Jan de Swart. The tower is made of wood with a fiberglass finish. It was restored in 2017. [map]
I believe the Big Top Carousel was built in 1955 when Playland opened. There was a different roof then. It was probably remodeled to its current folded plate roof in the early 1960s. [map] |
