former Lyons Coffee Shop [gone]

This former Lyons Coffee Shop housed the Melaka Restaurant when these photos were taken in 2008. The building was demolished around 2012. This was Lyons' first location, built in the early 1960s. It was designed by Armet & Davis. Some other Lyons locations were designed by Edward Wong & Associates. For more, see this website.

2014: 2024:
I believe this former Lyons Coffee Shop was designed by Armet & Davis and built in 1966. The building was located next to the Water Tree Inn which later housed a Rodeway Inn, the Fresno City Inn, and others. The coffee shop housed the Kaya Restaurant for many years but has been vacant since around 2023. The building has been painted black and white. The motel is used for low-cost housing. RH Community Builders owns the restaurant on the property and does not intend to lease it out. For more, see this website. [map]

This former Lyons Coffee Shop was designed by Armet & Davis. It last housed the Asian Buffet which closed around 2018. The building has been surrounded with chain link fencing since then. [map]

This former Mel's Junior Drive-in now houses a Nation's Giant Hamburgers. The Nation's Giant Hamburgers chain was founded in 1952 in San Pablo, CA as Harvey's Giant Hamburgers. The name was changed to Nation's in the 1970s. There are now two dozen locations in Northern California. For more, see this website. [map]
