former Cindy's Restaurant
Westminster, CA
The design for these Cindy's Restaurants was created by Victor Newlove of Armet & Davis.

The Cindy's Restaurant in San Jose was built in 1973. The building had housed Jimmy's Restaurant since at least the 1980s. There was a fire in 2015 and the building remained closed and surrounded by chain link fencing. It was demolished around 2020.

The Cindy's Restaurant in Davis must have been built in the early 1970s as well. For more, see this website. [map]

The Cindy's Restaurant in Westminster has housed the Cafe Westminster since 1974. I don't know if there were any other Cindy's built in Southern California. [map]

There is another Cindy's Restaurant in Oakdale but it doesn't have this distinctive roof. I don't know how many locations were built or what the geographic range was, but there were other Cindy's in Northern California and Idaho.

2015:
There are about ten Giant Burgers built in the Bay Area, most of them in Oakland. The locations are all independently operated now. I believe all of these buildings and signs were built in the mid-1960s. For more, see this website.

The 2540 San Pablo Ave. location had been housing Giant Burritos for several years before the sign was removed in 2017.

The San Pablo Ave. & 54th St. location has been surrounded with chain link fencing since 2015.

The Hayward location's sign still had neon in 2011. In 2021, the building was remodeled. The plastic diamond signs and rocky facade were removed.

The 2150 Telegraph location in Oakland was originally built as a Kwik Way. The dice on sticks originally had Kwik Way letters on them. This Giant Burgers closed in 2014. In 2015, the building was repainted and opened as Space Burger. The Giant Burgers pole sign remains. In 2016, it was announced that the building will be demolished for a new condo development. It has been surrounded with chain link fencing since 2017. The building was still there in 2022.
