This Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge sign is probably from the 1950s. [map]
The Cotten-Bratton Furniture Co. building was built in 1883 and housed the J.T. Cotten Furniture Company. In 1911, it became Cotten-Bratton. The sign might have been installed in the 1930s. The store is long gone but the sign remained. It was restored in 2023 by Don Smith Signs. This photo is from 2026. [map] This Studebaker sign stood on a lot with about a dozen unrestored Studebaker cars and trucks. The sign was apparently part of a private collection belonging to the Studebaker Farm. This photo is from 2011. By 2012, the sign was gone. These signs were mass-produced and there are a handful of them still on display at dealerships around the country. |

This Frigidaire sign hangs above the former F.G. Gerik Appliance Co. which was in business from at least the 1950s through the 1970s. These neon Frigidaire signs, especially those with embossed letters, are very rare now. [map] |

Barbee Electric Service was established in 1946. This sign might be from then or the 1950s. [map]
The Bel-Air Hotel was long-closed but this sign remained. The four poles on top of the sign appeared to be revolving light beacons. The missing text originally read "and" (middle line) and "Motor Lodge" (bottom line). In 2023, the hotel was demolished and the sign was either removed or destroyed at the same time. The Catalina Motel sign appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map] These YMCA signs were mass-produced but there are only a few of them still displayed around the country. This one was built in the late 1940s. In 2022, YMCA corporate made this location take this sign down since it was "non-compliant" with the current logo. The sign is now stored inside The Burn Shop which built the new YMCA signs. |
