Springfield, IL
This former Stuckey's gas station convenience store was built in 1971. The building had been vacant since at least 2007. Since 2017, the building has housed the Route 66 Motorheads Bar & Grill.

This 30-foot-wide, Stuckey's billboard sign is made from painted sheet metal panels. The sign was installed on a country road near New Berlin, IL in the 1960s. In the late 1980s, it was moved to a farm in New Berlin. It was installed at Motorheads in 2019. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

This office building had a mid-century sunscreen material which was similar or identical to that used in the Harris Bank in Richmond, IN and the Anthony Rossi Studio in Canton, OH. This photo is from 2009. The building was still there in 2015 but had been demolished by the following year.

Archway RV Park

Neal Auto Parts
Peoria, IL
The Travelodge in Vandalia featured a 60-foot-tall replica of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis which is 70 miles away. It was designed and built in 1965 by Harry Mabry who owned the Travelodge at the time. The sign near the top of the arch was removed around 2018. The motel is now an America's Best Value Inn but the arch remains. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

The Archway RV Park has another Gateway Arch inspired sign. The business was previously known as the Quality Times RV Park. I don't know when the sign was installed. [map]

This 50-foot-tall Gateway Arch in Peoria was originally built for a Kroger supermarket. It was in storage at Lutz Steel and installed here in 1987 for Neal Auto Parts. In 2013, the original car from 1982 was replaced and the arch was repainted. There is another one of these adapted signs in St. Louis, MO and another one in Nashville, TN which has been adapted.
