Captain Jack's Prime Rib
Sunset Beach, CA
Captain Jack's Prime Rib opened in 1964. I don't know how long this sailor statue has been here. It appears to be a wood carving. In 2022, the statue was moved to the back of the building. [second photo thanks R.B. Reed] [map]

Oil Worker Monument
Taft, CA
The bronze Oil Worker Monument sculptures were created by Benjamin Victor and installed in 2010. It depicts workers in the oil fields in 1910. [map]

Harvest of Progress
Tracy, CA
This statue of an unidentified character stands in front of a daycare center. Does anyone know who this statue represents? [map]

This Harvest of Progress sculpture pays tribute to Tracy's railroad and agricultural heritage. The bronze sculpture was installed in 2013 in a roundabout downtown. It was designed by Rowland Cheney and is about 16 feet tall. The farmer and railroad conductor stand back-to-back. For more, see this website. [map]

Donner Party Monument
Truckee, CA
The Donner Party Monument sculpture was created by John McQuarrie and installed in Donner Memorial State Park in 1918. Also known as the Pioneer Monument, the sculpture pays tribute to the Donner Party families that were trapped by heavy snow in 1846 for four months while crossing the Sierra Nevadas. These statues were originally installed at Jack LaLanne Fitness Centers. This was a nationwide chain and there are still a number of these statues around the country being used by various businesses. Two other examples can be found in Reno, NV and Scarsdale, NY. There are several of these statues at various Rainforest Cafe locations. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

The Atlas statue in Van Nuys is installed on the roof of the Duk Su Jang Restaurant. [map]

The Atlas statue in Sacramento is installed in front of California Family Fitness. [map]

The Atlas statue in Hayward was located at a farm in Michigan for about 25 years. It arrived at Bell Plastics in 2018. The statue will be restored and displayed with various other statues at the company. [map]

Ballerina Clown
Venice, CA
This Ballerina Clown is installed on the Renaissance Building, over a CVS drug store. Originally, the 30-foot-tall statue's right leg kicked. It was created by Jonathan Borofsky and installed here in 1989. For more, see this website. [map]

Fishermen's Memorial
Ventura, CA
The Fishermen's Memorial was dedicated in 2005. The arch is located at Ventura Harbor Village. It is about ten feet tall. It pays tribute to local fishermen that died at sea. The sculpture was done by Michel Petersen. She used plaster casts of four working fishermen for the artwork.

Gold Miner [gone]
Weaverville, CA
The cast bronze Bullman sculpture was created by Gerald Heffernon and installed in 2017. [map]

This wood-carved Gold Miner in Weaverville was installed in front of the 49er Gold Country Inn. It had been there since at least 2012 but was gone by 2024. The former owners of the motel took him with them when the business changed hands.
