The Tastee-Freez buildings shown below are what I call the "grooved roofs." They were built with either two, three, or four vertical grooves. The Laurel, MD location, now gone, had five grooves. I believe all of the locations built in this style were called "Big T"s. I don't know of any buildings with this design still operating as Tastee-Freez. If you know of any other examples of these buildings, I'd love to know about them.

I believe these Carver's restaurants were originally Tastee-Freez Big T locations. Both of these locations were open when these photos were taken in 2010. However, by 2014, both buildings had been remodeled beyond recognition. At that point, one of them was a burger place while the other was a tax office.

This Tastee-Freez was using the Big T name in 2010. Locals still referred to it as "the Tastee-Freez". In 2013, the building was significantly remodeled. This location closed in 2022. In 2023, it began operating as Saucy's. [map]

This former Tastee-Freez in Laurel was the last surviving Tastee-Freez in Delaware. It was built as a walk-up in the 1950s. This roof and dining room were added in the 1970s. This photo is from 2011. By 2014, the building was housing the Laurel Diner. The Tastee signs had been removed but the blue, grooved roof was still there. By 2018, the building was either rebuilt or completely remodeled and housing a Smash n' Dash. [photo thanks Glenn Van Fleet]

There was a Big T Tastee-Freez in Laurel, MD which is gone now. That location was built onto an old McDonald's building. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

This former Tastee-Freez in Piedmont is now housing the Roadside Grill. [map]

Sunbury, PA
This former Tastee-Freez in Fairfax now houses The Esposito's Italian restaurant. Note that this building has four grooves. Esposito's has apparently been here since 1982. [map]

This former Tastee-Freez in Sunbury now houses the Manna Latin Restaurant. There are three roof grooves on the side and two grooves on the front. The roof was painted yellow back in 2008. For more, see this website. [map]

Woodward, OK
This former Tastee-Freez in Watervliet is now occupied by Saylor's Main Street Pizzeria. The roof was remodeled by 2023 and no longer has the grooves. [map]

This former Tastee-Freez in Woodward now houses the Taco Factory and the roof has been painted bright green. [map]
