| Tiny's Dairy Barn was built in 1963 as a Dairy Queen. It became Tiny's Dairy Barn around the late 1960s. In the 1980s or 1990s, there was a fire in the upstairs area which was used for an office and storage. The roof was rebuilt into this unique design which is open in front. [map] |

The Athens and Andover Dairy Queens have/had rooftop "lips" logo weathervanes. I don't believe any other locations still have these but I assume that they were once nationwide. There are the remains of one of these in Marlborough, MA. There was another one in Albuquerque, NM which is gone now.
The Andover location closed around 2013. Since 2016, the building has housed Dairy Oasis. The Dairy Queen sign is gone but the weathervane remains. The Athens location had closed by 2017 and the weathervane is gone now. [Andover map] Slanted sign poles like the one that was in Andover are now very rare. The slanted pole signs in Bay City and Stephenville have readerboards between the pole and the lips sign. I don't know how common this was with slanted pole signs or if it was a regional thing. The Bay City sign was replaced with a modern swoosh sign in 2019. [Bay City map]; [Stephenville map] The panels of the slanted pole in Stamford, CT were replaced with the modern logo in 2015. The slanted pole is still there. There is another slanted pole in Marlborough, MA which has been updated with the modern "swoosh" logo sign panels. There is another one in South Milwaukee, WI. However, that location closed in 2019 and now houses Better Together Coffee. The Dairy Queen sign panels were removed but the pole remains. There were evidently pairs of slanted sign poles like this one in Metropolis, IL which are gone now. There were also thinner poles as well like this one in Fort Worth, TX which is also gone. There is a slanted pole in Plano, TX with "DQ" sign panels. There are other slanted poles in Romeo, MI, Vernon, NJ, and Columbia, PA. This Dairy Queen in Topeka has a slanted sign pole but the original panels were replaced with modern logo panels in 2016. This location had opened by 1968. [map] This former Dairy Queen sign in Albuquerque is located in the sign yard of Southwest Outdoor Electric. The Dennis the Menace comic strip character was used in Dairy Queen advertising from 1971-2001. I don't know of any other signs like this left. For more, see this website. This Dairy Queen sign in Elwood might be the only example left of these 1960s double lips signs. [map] The photos of the Shinnston location are from 2012. By 2013, the location had closed. The building is still there but the weathervane and sign are gone. |

| This Cissna Park and Watseka locations have more squat barn roofs than those shown above. These might have been a regional design since I have not seen them anywhere else in the country. [Cissna Park map]; [Watseka map] |
