Santa Monica Pier Carousel
Santa Monica, CA
The Santa Monica Pier Carousel was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company (#62) in 1922. It was located in Nashville, TN until around 1941. It then was moved to Venice, CA in 1942. In 1946, the carousel was moved from the Venice Pier to the Santa Monica Pier. It was restored from 1981-1984 and again in 1990. There are 28 jumping horses, 16 standing horses, and two chariots. The rabbit either came from another carousel or is a replica. There is also a 1922 Wurlitzer band organ. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
