Corey [gone]
New Castle, IN (now Ohio)
These gas station attendant statues were originally installed at Marathon gas stations. I haven't seen or heard of any outside of Indiana. The name "Corey" was originally painted on the side of statue's left arm. These statues were built around 1969 by Richard Kishel's Art Forms Workshop in Muncie, IN. The company also created these similar-looking Uncle Sam statues. For more see this website.

The Corey statue in Montpelier originally stood at a Marathon station which later became a Flagman station in Connersville, IN. By 2001, it had been moved to a used car lot in Muncie, IN. It was later moved to this location in front of the former Covered Bridge Gallery of Fine Gifts and the Tin Lizzy Ice Cream Shop. The business have been closed since at least 2017. Despite the peeling paint, Corey's name is still visible on his left shoulder. The top of the ice cream cone has been gone since at least 2013. [map]

The Corey statue in New Castle stood near the Ice House Tavern. There was most likely a gas station on the empty lot. The Marathon patch on his right arm looked like it was changed to Sunoco before it was painted over. In 2024, this statue was sold and removed. It will be restored and displayed at the Muscle Car Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH when it opens.

There was at least one other Corey statue which was in Cambridge City, IN and is gone now.

Lumberjack
Muncie, IN
The 38-foot tall Lumberjack was built in 1965 for the Kirby Wood Lumber Co. in Muncie. It was created by Richard Kishel's Art Forms Workshop in Muncie. The statue's shirt was painted as red plaid originally. In 1993, it was moved to the Timbers Lounge where it stands today. For more, see this website. [map]

This stainless steel sculpture of a Man Sitting on Typewriter Keys was created by Zachary Oxman and installed in 2006 in front of the Northwest Indiana Times. It depicts a journalist and is officially entitled "Inspiration." For more, see this website. [map]

Conrad's Transmissions

This Conrad's Transmissions statue was installed in 2012. The wood-carving depiction of Paul Conrad, the shop's owner, is protected in a glass box and waves to traffic. He originally held a transmission in his left hand but now holds a wrench. [map]

Joe Palooka
Oolitic, IN
The Joe Palooka character was created by cartoonish Ham Fisher in 1921. He began appearing in comic strips and comic books in 1930. The character was a boxing champion that evolved into the Champion of Democracy during World War II. In 1948, this limestone sculpture was created by Harry Easton and George Hitchcock and installed in Bedford, IN. It was donated to the city of Oolitic in 1984. For more, see this website. [map]
