former Mister Fifteen
Shirley, IN

2010:

2025:
This Mister Fifteen statue was one of about 16 made by Richard Kishel's Art Forms Workshop in Muncie, IN from 1961-1973 for the Mister Fifteen fast food chain. The "Fifteen" referred to the price of the drive-in's hamburgers. The "Hamburger Man" statues wore chef's hats and originally held hamburgers in their upraised left hands and nothing in their right hands. Some of the statues were installed on top of pole signs while others stood in drive-thru lanes with belt buckles that served as a speakers for taking orders. In 1968, the chain was renamed Burger Man. At that time, there were three locations in Muncie, IN, one in Anderson, IN, and one in Greenville, OH. There was also a location in Elwood, IN. Other locations in Indiana and Ohio followed before the chain folded in 1973. It is not known what city this came from but I don't think there was a Shirley location. On the side of his lunch bag which was added later, there is faded paint which reads "Judy's Carry Out". This statue is also sometimes referred to as "Puffy the Baker." This is the only statue known to survive or at least the only one on public display. In 2016, the statue was repainted. For more, see this website. [map]

This bronze sculpture of Orville Redenbacher, the King of Popcorn, was created by Lou Cella and installed in 2012 in Lincoln Park. For more, see this website. [map]

Ironworkers
Valparaiso, IN
This Ironworkers sculpture features 11 men sitting on steel beam. It was created by Sergio Furnari inspired by the 1932 photo entitled Lunch Atop a Skyscraper. It was an actual photo of a staged publicity stunt during the construction of Rockefeller Center. Furnari began working on the sculpture in 1999 and was nearly done in 2011 when the 9/11 tragedy happened. Once completed, the sculpture was put on display at the Twin Towers site while cleanup was going on. After five months, the sculpture was taken on tour around the country. It was installed on the roof of the Industrial Revolution Restaurant in time for the 2010 opening. The figures were built from wire mesh, newspaper, cement, and epoxy. They were dressed in clothes from a thrift store, then spray painted and sanded to look like they were made from stainless steel. In addition to this sculpture group, there is a seated and a walking figure on the other side of the building. They appear to also be the work of Furnari. [map]

There was another sculpture based on the same photo in Phoenix, AZ.

Red Skelton
Vincennes, IN
Red Skelton

This Red Skelton sculpture is installed in front of the Pantheon Theatre where he sold newspapers as a boy. It was created by Nick Ring and installed in 2022. [map]

This Red Skelton statue depicts him as one of his most famous characters, Freddie the Freeloader. It is installed just inside the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy. I believe this statue was created by Sherry Cummins. Red originally held a cigar in his left hand in the hole between his index and middle finger. [map]
