This is an archived section. It is no longer linked to the Home Page of my website. Too many sections, too many topics pulling me in different directions. I will leave this section here for folks that are interested in kiddie rides. But I won't be actively updating or adding things to this section.

Kiddieland Amusement Park [gone]
Melrose Park, IL
Kiddieland sign
2012:

Kiddieland Amusement Park opened here in 1929. It featured vintage kiddie rides, a carousel from 1925, a log ride and a junior wooden roller coaster. The amusement park closed in 2009 and the rides were all auctioned off. I don't know where these kiddie rides went.

The Kiddieland sign was built in 1950. It featured a boy and a girl clinging to a giant peppermint stick which used to spin. The children had neon installed on only side to create the effect of them chasing one another at night. When the park closed, the sign was put up for sale but it did not find a buyer. It wound up being donated to the Melrose Park Historical Society. In 2012, parts of the sign were installed in the Melrose Park Library parking lot. The neon was removed by the Society. Bulbs were added and some repainting was done. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.
