Texas Theatre

Tower Theatre
Lamesa, TX
The Texas Theatre was designed by Jack Corgan and built in 1950. It was closed by the late 1970s. It housed a church in recent years. In 2014, renovation work began to reopen the theatre for movies and live performances. For more, see this website. [map]

The Tower Theatre was probably built in the 1920s or 1930s. It was destroyed by fire but the facade was saved. For more, see this website. [map]

Plaza Theatre
Laredo, TX
The Plaza Theatre opened in 1947. In the early 1970s, it was split into three auditoriums. It has been vacant for many years but renovation is underway to turn the theatre into a performing arts center. Recently, the neon marquee was partially relit and "upgraded" with LED screens. Pines Theatre
Lufkin, TX
The Pines Theatre was built in 1925. It later housed a church. In 2007, the City bought the building and is restoring it. When these photos were taken in 2011, the exterior and marquee had been refurbished and the interior was being actively worked on. The Stanley Theatre opened in 1948. It was converted into a clothing factory in 1974. The building is currently vacant. For more, see this website. [map]

The Uptown Theatre opened in 1942. It was later known as the Marble Theatre. It closed in the early 2000s. The theatre was restored and reopened in 2016 as the Uptown Sound Studio. The Palace Theatre was built in 1905 as the Marfa Opera House. It was updated in the Art Deco style in the 1930s. The theatre closed in the 1970s. The building appears to be vacant. For more, see this website. [map]

The Palace Theatre was built in 1925 on the former site of the Majestic Theatre. It closed in 1975. After restoration, the theatre has reopened as a live performance venue. The Palace Cafe sign next door appears to be from the 1920s or 1930s. For more, see this website. [map]

The Paramount Theatre opened in 1930. It had been closed since at least 2005. In 2016, the theatre was renovated and reopened as an events and performance venue known as the Paramount Room. By 2022, that had closed. For more, see this website. [map]

The Cine El Rey Theatre opened in 1948 and closed in 1988. It was restored and reopened in 2002. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]
