This Westinghouse sign is an orphaned sign (business long gone). It is probably from the 1960s. By 2021, the supports for the sign had apparently bent and the sign was nearly flat against the building. These plastic Westinghouse signs are very rare now. They usually had the business name on the top panel like this one. [map]

The Alpine Lodge sign was probably from the 1950s. The motel and sign were gone by 2018. For more, see this website.

Around 2008, the Package Liquor sign was repainted and the neon was removed. This photo is from 2012. For more, see this website. [map]

The Cottonwood Court sign appears to be from the 1950s. By 2018, clear plastic was installed on the panels to protect the neon. For more, see this website. [map]

The Stage Coach Motor Inn was built in the 1940s. The sign is probably from the 1950s. The building is no longer a motel. The loewr "vacancy" panel has been changed to read "apartments". [map]

The Pantry Restaurant opened in 1948. This sign may be from then. [map]

The King's Rest Court Inn was built in the 1930s. The sign is probably from the 1950s. [map]

The Western Scene Motel sign is probably from the 1950s. It probably had painted wooden planks originally judging from the frilly edges of the panels. [map]

The Santa Fe Lodge sign appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. It was removed around 2016 and is now in a private collection. For more, see this website.

Rio Pecos Ranch Truck Terminal
Santa Rosa, NM
The Rio Pecos Ranch Truck Terminal opened around 1955. It has been abandoned for many years and the gas pumps are long gone. The truck's driver had an animated waving hand at one time. In 2003, the city of Santa Rosa expressed interest in relocating this sign and replacing the white plastic portion with a "Welcome to Santa Rosa" message board. However, the owner of the sign wanted too much money and the project fell through. These photos are from 2012. The sign and building behind it were still untouched as of 2018. [map]

La Loma Motel

La Mesa Motel

The La Loma Motel was originally known as the La Loma Lodge when it was built in the 1930s. This sign is probably from the 1950s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

The La Mesa Motel opened around 1940. This sign is probably from the 1950s or 1960s. It is lit at night. For more, see this website. [map]

Club Cafe [gone]

Route 66 Restaurant
Santa Rosa, NM
The Club Cafe opened in 1935 and closed in 1992. The "Restaurant" rooftop sign was removed but this pole sign still remains. The Club Cafe used the "Fat Man" character on its billboards and signs. This character was adopted by Joseph's Bar & Grill. A copy of the sign hangs on their building. In 2019, these two signs were removed and are believed to be in a private collection now. The original Fat Man sign is at the Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

The Route 66 Restaurant was originally built as Lettie's Restaurant, probably in the early 1960s. It was known as Shawford's before becoming the Route 66 Restaurant. The restaurant has been closed since 2019. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4. [map]

Joseph's Bar & Grill

Joseph's Bar & Grill opened in 1956 as the Las Fiesta restaurant. It became Joseph's in 1985. The arrow sign was updated at that time. For more, see this website. [map]

Sun N Sand Motel & Restaurant
Santa Rosa, NM
The Sun N Sand Motel & Restaurant opened in 1966. These signs appear to be from then. The motel sign features a Zia sun symbol and is about 40 feet tall. It was restored in 2002. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Sahara Cafe
Santa Rosa, NM
2012: 2019:
The Sahara Cafe sign was from the 1950s. The top part of the sign originally read "Restaurant" and "Lounge". The lower part read "Cafe". The panels were all brown. The business had been boarded up and closed for many years. In 2019, a tornado left the top panel leaning against the roof. A few months later, the signs were removed. They are now in a private collection.
