This Sonotone Hearing Aid Company sign is probably from the 1950s. It is located at the former Niagara of Louisville shop that sold hearing aids. [map]
Schreck's Baxter Liquors was established in 1936 as Schreck's Kentucky Liquors. The sign was built by the late 1950s when advertisements for the store on Dixie Highway read "Look for the Winking Colonel." The store and sign moved to Baxter Avenue in 1975. [map] |

| Patrick's Beer Garden, an Irish pub, opened in the 1940s. It was located right next door to Volk Cleaners which closed around 2017. Both signs appear(ed) to be from the 1950s. The Volk Cleaners sign was gone by 2021. Patrick's closed in 2025 but the sign is still there. For more, see this website. [map] |

The Twig and Leaf Restaurant had opened on Frankfort Ave. by 1954 and this sign is probably from then. By 1962, the restaurant and sign had moved to its current location. For more, see this website. [map]
Speier Hardware opened in 1944. This sign is probably from the 1950s. The store closed around 2015. Although the space below houses another business, the sign remains. [map] The Silver Dollar bar opened in 2011. This modern sign was created by Todd Sanders of Roadhouse Relics in Austin, TX. The bar closed in 2025. [map] The Hotel Marty opened in 2024 with office space, apartments, and a coffee shop. I don't know where this sign was installed originally. It might be from the 1930s. I don't know if it was installed in Louisville or even Kentucky but it was up for sale at a Louisville antiques store in 2008. [map] |

Kaelin's Restaurant opened in 1934 and closed in 2009. This sign might be from the 1940s. In 2018, the sign was restored by Rueff Signs for the building's new occupant, 80/20 @ Kaelin's Restaurant. For more, see this website. [map]
Oscar's Hardware store was preceded by many other hardware businesses. In the 1930s, it housed Boyd & Stein. It housed McKechnie Hardware after that. In 1944, it became C.R. Chism Hardware. In 1954, it became Frankfort Ave. Hardware. This sign is probably from the 1950s. The "Oscar's" panel is probably covering up the "Frankfort Ave." sign. [map] |

This Teamsters Union Hall sign was built in 1958 and installed and its previous location downtown. When the new hall was built, it was installed at the back entrance. The sign was restored in 2020. The neon is protected by a wire cage. [map] |

| Gray Seal Paint was founded in 1912. The paint is still produced in Louisville by Progress Brands. This plastic sign hung on the side of the Kentucky Mirror & Plate Glass building for many years. In 2008, the sign's panels were replaced. The wording was changed and a photographic portrait replaced the Gray Seal character. [map] |

Nally's Barber Shop was located on Frankfort Ave by 1940. It was at this location by 1952 and is still operating. This sign is probably from the 1950s. In 2015, the sign was restored by the Rueff Sign Company. [map]
Gerstle's Place was established in 1924. This sign is probably from the 1950s or earlier. [map] This Baker Boy Donuts sign was uncovered during development in 2012 and has been preserved. The painted wood sign may be from the 1950s. There was a Baker Boy Doughnuts by the late 1950s about a block away. This sign was probably moved at some point. [map] |

Norman's Glass & Custom Framing has been around since 1948. This sign is probably from that time. The store is still open. In 2012, during a facade renovation, the sign was donated to the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, OH. For more, see this website.

From the letters under the whiskey bottle it appears that Don's Liquors was Larry's Liquors originally unless this sign was moved here from somewhere else. This photo is from 2010. By 2014, the store had closed and these signs were gone.
The Pet's Palace pet shop opened in 1959 when the Bon Air Manor Shopping Center was built. By 2011, the store had relocated and this sign was gone. The new location has a plastic box sign. The vintage sign was briefly at an antiques store in Edinburgh, IN before it was sold. |

J.R. Collins Cleaners was long gone but this sign remained on the vacant lot until around 2022.
The Bridges Smith & Co. painting supplies company was established in 1875. In 2010, the company announced that it was moving. This sign was sold to a private collector. For more, see this website. These photos of the Smith's Furniture signs are from 2007. Later that year, the pole sign was replaced with a plastic box sign. By 2011, the store had closed but the neon owl and lettering on the building were still there. Those signs were gone by 2012. |
