| Mayfield Electric & Water Systems still provides power supplied by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority). This sign was installed in 1955. It stopped working in the 1960s. In 2010, just a few months after these photos were taken, this sign was restored with LED bulbs. In 2021, the building, sign, and much of the city was destroyed by a tornado. |

J.C. Everett Co. department store was established in 1896. The company moved to this location around 1915. The store is long gone but this sign remains. It was probably built in the 1940s or 1950s. [map]
The EAT Gallery opened in 2006. This "EAT" sign originally advertised for Morgan's Restaurant which opened at this location in 1945. This sign is probably from then. [map] The Sherwin-Williams Paints sign remained for years although there was no paint store there below. This sign was probably mass-produced but this was the only one that I know of to still exist. The sign was still there in 2014 but gone by 2018. It appeared to have been a backlit sign with bulbs inside. Victor's Sandwiches opened in the 1970s and this sign might be from then unless it was adapted from a previous business. Victor's closed in 2024 but this sign remains. [map] |

The Nie's Shoe Repair store had closed by 2018 when the building was purchased and restored. The sign was removed in 2023 and also restored. [map]
The Brass Ass Lounge opened around 1976. This sign may have been built in the late 1940s for the Stark Club. A number of clubs operated at this address after that including the Silver Sipper, the Bongo Club, the Stardust Club, the Frolic Club, and the Galaxie Club. The neon and bulb star on the building was added for the Stardust Club which was there from 1956-1961. In 2026, the bar closed. The city may keep and restore the sign. If not, it will be going to the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, OH. I don't know if the star will stay. [map] |

Charlie's Steak House had been here since at least the 1960s. The rooftop sign was repainted just before this photo was taken in 2010. In 2011, the place was destroyed by a fire. By 2013, the building and sign were gone. For more, see this website.
I believe the Raines Shoe Hospital had been here since 1946. The store closed in 2016. By 2019, the sign was gone. The International Order of Odd Fellows sign is probably from the 1940s or 1950s. [map] |

| Kirchoff's Bakery was established in 1873 and closed in 1957. It reopened in 1997 as Kirchhoff's Bakery and Deli. These stainless steel letters are probably from the 1940s. They were probably outlined with neon originally. [map] |
