Crossroads Mall [gone]
Omaha, NE
The Crossroads Mall opened in 1960. Sears was one of the original tenants and these details appear to be original. While the membrane tents shown here have a mid-century look, they were actually not built until the late 1980s. These building were demolished in 2021. For more, see this website.

Chops Bowl
Omaha, NE
Chops Bowl appears to be from the 1950s or so. The facade features porcelain enamel steel tiles and a sign composed of freestanding letters. Does anyone know when this place originally opened and if it has always been Chops Bowl? [map]

Mutual of Omaha Insurance Building
Omaha, NE
The Mutual of Omaha Insurance Building was built in 1970. The Mutual of Omaha Dome was built in 1979. It is 90 feet in diameter and covers an underground facility. The Dome houses an employee cafe and is used for special events. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Lyman-Richey Corporation
Omaha, NE
The Lyman-Richey Corporation is a concrete, sand, gravel and construction materials supplier with offices in Nebraska, Iowa, and Colorado. This was the company's headquarters. These buildings were built from 1963-1964. The building now houses the Parrish Alternative School. [map]

Fire Department Headquarters & Station #1
Omaha, NE
The Fire Department Headquarters & Station #1 was designed by Henningson, Durham, and Richardson and built from 1965-1968. [map]

Satellite Motel
Omaha, NE
The Satellite Motel was built in 1966. The round two-story building features pie slice shaped rooms. These photos are from 2006. The sputnik style sign add-on was painted white by 2011. These were originally painted red. For more, see this website. [map]

This Fraternal Order of Eagles restaurant was apparently open to the general public. The building and sign appear to be from the 1960s. The building now houses Milano's Italian Restaurant. The sign's letters have been painted white. [map]

The former L.B. Murphy Co. department store was built in 1960. The building now houses Airbeds & Bedrooms by Waterbed. [map]
