Georgia Welcome Center
Sylvania, GA
This Georgia Welcome Center is located at the stateline of Georgia and South Carolina on US 301. The was Georgia's first Welcome Center and was built in 1962. This was before I-95 was built. The Center gets few visitors now and the building is endangered despite the fact that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [map]

Valley Floor Covering occupied this 1960s-looking building when this photo was taken in 2010. Does anyone know what the original tenant was and when this was built? The building was housing Assurance Realty by 2012. [map]

The Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center was probably built in the 1960s. This photo is from 2010. In 2012, new parking structures were built in front of this canopy. [map]

Marietta Post Office

City Hall
Adel, GA
The Adel City Hall was designed by Blake Ellis and built in 1961. [map]

Callaway Gardens
Pine Mountain, GA
Callaway Gardens opened in 1959. The top two rows show the Dining Pavilion, aka the Beach Pavilion, which was built at that time. The bottom left photo shows the shuffleboard courts which are next to the Pavilion. I assume they were built at the same time. The bottom right photo shows the grandstand pavilion which is just across the lake from the Dining Pavilion. Grandstand seating is installed there for specators to watch the Waterski & Wakeboard Tournament which has been an annual event since 1959. [map]

Georgia Mental Health Institute
Atlanta, GA
The Georgia Mental Health Institute was designed by Abraham Thomas Bradbury and built from 1962-1963. The building is now used as Emory University's Briarcliff Campus. [map]

Thunderbird Inn
Savannah, GA
The Thunderbird Inn opened in 1964. The motel and neon sign were completely restored from 2004-2005. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Valdosta, GA
