Tropics Motor Hotel
Indio, CA
This Tropics Motor Hotel was built in 1965. There were four other California locations in the Tropics Motel chain. They were located in Blythe, Modesto, Rosemead, and Palm Springs (see below). [map]

former Tropics Motor Hotel
Palm Springs, CA
This Tropics Motor Hotel opened in 1964. In 2000, this motel was completely renovated and renamed the Caliente Tropics Resort. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. [map]

Outrigger Apartments
Pasadena, CA
The Outrigger Apartments retains a lot of nice details -- or at least they did. In 2008, just after these photos were taken, the place was remodeled and renamed the Huntington at Pasadena. The big tiki (shown top right) in front of the building has been removed. I'm not sure what's happened to the rest of the place. [map]

Aloha Arms Apartments
Pico Rivera, CA
The Aloha Arms Apartments is part of a group of three tiki style apartment buildings which includes the Kapu Tiki Apartments and the former Samoa Apartments. They are all probably from the early 1960s. [map]
