The Granada Theatre was built in 1949. It has been closed for many years. This theatre is a twin to the Capitan Theatre in Pasadena, TX. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Tower Theatre

The Tower Theatre opened in 1936. In the 1970s, it was converted into a live music venue. Then in the 1980s and 1990s, it served as nightclubs: "Clubland" and "Decadance at The Tower Theatre". It housed a Hollywood Video store in 2006. In 2011, the El Real Tex-Mex restaurant moved into the building. In 2021, the building began housing the Acme Oyster House. It closed in 2023. The building now houses Doc's Houston, a jazz club. For more, see this website. [map]

Garden Oaks Theatre

The Garden Oaks Theatre opened in 1947. It closed sometime in the 1990s. The building now houses the Grace Church. In 2026, it was announced that the building had been sold to a developer and will be demolished. For more, see this website. [map]

Heights Theatre

Majestic Metro Theatre
Houston, TX
The Heights Theatre opened in 1929. The exterior was remodeled in 1935. The theatre was damaged by a fire in 1969 and gutted. It closed in 1999 and the building was used for retail space. The theatre is now a live performance venue. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

The Majestic Metro Theatre opened in 1926 as the Ritz Theatre. The name was changed in the 1970s. The building is now used as an event center. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map]

Alley Theatre

The Alley Theatre was designed by Ulrich Franzen and built from 1966-1968. It has always been used for live performances. For more, see this website. [map]

Alabama Theatre

The Alabama Theatre was designed by W. Scott Dunne and opened in 1939. The theatre closed in 1983 and was converted into a Bookstop book store in 1984. The interior was sensitively remodeled. The balcony was used as a cafe and study area. The screen and murals inside were preserved. The signs outside were also retained. The store closed in 2009 and the interior was gutted.
