Shreveport Signs

Around the Clock
Bail Bonds
Shreveport, LA
Kings Lounge [gone]
Shreveport, LA
George's Grill
Shreveport, LA
The Around the Clock Bail Bonds sign might be from the 1970s. It is a great example of a vacuum-formed plastic sign. The embossing was created by pulling a flat plastic sheet over a mold with a vacuum. The paint is applied after that. [map]

The Kings Lounge has been gone for many years but this sign remained until around 2022. It was located on Kings Highway.

George's Grill opened in 1960. This sign is probably from the 1950s. There was probably another restaurant here that installed the sign. George's closed in 2017. The building is still vacant and this sign remains. [map]

Rountree Used on
Mansfield (now Car Giant)
Shreveport, LA
2018: 2021:
Rountree Ford was established in 1940 and had other locations in Shreveport. This sign at Rountree Used on Mansfield is probably from the late 1950s or early 1960s. By 2013, this location had closed. The lot was still vacant and the sign was still there in 2018. I suspect the letter blocks on this sign revolved at one time. By 2019, another used car business, Car Giant, had moved in and adapted the block letters on the sign. [map]

parking garage
Shreveport, LA
Ridgway's [gone]
Shreveport, LA
This parking garage sign is probably from the 1950s. [map]

Ridgway's was established in 1926. This sign was probably from the 1950s. The printing company had offices in ten states. This Shreveport location was still open when this photo was taken in 2010. By 2013, there were panels covering the sign for ARC Document Solutions. By 2016, the sign was gone. There was another Ridgway's neon sign on the side of the building that is gone now. For more, see this website.

Porter Howard Garage
Shreveport, LA
2010: 2019:
The Porter Howard Garage offered car repairs and parking. It opened in 1957 and this sign appears to be from then. The building has been abandoned for many years but this sign remains. In the eight years between the photos above, the paint has faded considerably and the rust is getting worse. For more, see this website. [map]

Don's Seafood
& Steak House [gone]
Shreveport, LA
Cub Liquor
Shreveport, LA
Don's Seafood & Steak House opened here in 1965. The restaurant closed in 2008. This sign was gone by 2013.

The Cub Lounge opened in 1939. These signs are probably from the 1950s or 1960s. [map]

Sun Furniture [gone]
Shreveport, LA
Cash in a Flash
Shreveport, LA
Sun Furniture was established in 1950, opening a block away from this location. This sign appears to be from the 1950s. The store closed in 2018. The sign was removed in 2022 and adapted for the SporTran Resource Center. The letters are now backlit plastic while the panels have LED borders. [map]

The Cash in a Flash sign poles originally supported panels for an Alamo Plaza Motor Hotel. That sign was still there in 1979. By 2000, that sign was gone and the panels for this sign had been added to the poles, with an additional angled pole to support the readerboard. The sign probably advertised for another business before Cash in a Flash and most likely had neon. The neon cylinder on top probably flashed. [map]

Herby K's
Shreveport, LA
Palomar Motel
Shreveport, LA
Herby-K's was established in 1936 as a restaurant and bar. It is still operating. This sign is probably from the 1950s. [map]

The Palomar Motel was originally known as the Hotel Palomar Courts. The tourist court was built around 1938. The neon sign is from the early 1950s. The units are now used for low-income housing. [map]

Garrison's Greenwood Gardens
Shreveport, LA
OK Cleaners
Shreveport, LA
The Garrison's Greenwood Gardens opened in 1959. This sign may be from then. [map]

OK Cleaners was built in 1954 and these signs appear to be from then. The business is closed now. The former pole sign on the ground has been leaning against the building since at least 2008. [map]

Fertitta's Deli
Shreveport, LA
Fertitta's Deli opened in 1927 as a grocery. In 1960, it became a deli and sandwich shop. The sign on the roof was built soon after that to advertise their muffuletta "Muffy" sandwiches. The sign that is now on the side of the building is probably from the late 1940s or 1950s and was probably installed on front of the building before the newer sign was built. [map]

First National Bank
Shreveport, LA
Glenwood Drug Store
Shreveport, LA
The First National Bank has been closed and the bank has been vacant for decades but this sign remains. The Avenue Branch was there by the early 1940s. The sign may be from then. [map]

Glenwood Drug Store opened in 1923. The building was remodeled at some point. This sign was updated around 2008 with a panel covering up the "Drug Store" portion to read Glenwood Village. Both panels had neon originally. The sign was probably built in the 1950s or 1960s. For more, see this website. [map]
