former Admiral Benbow Inn
Jackson, MS
This Admiral Benbow Inn was probably built in the early 1960s. The building now houses the Admiral Retirement Center. There were Admiral Benbow Inns in the South with similar designs in about 18 locations including: Memphis, TN, Chattanooga, TN, Nashville, TN, Pine Bluff, AR, and Louisville, KY. [map]

Sun-n-Sand Motel
Jackson, MS
The Sun-n-Sand Motel was built in 1960. It closed in 2001 and had been boarded up since then. These photos are from 2010 and 2019. In 2019, the property was sold to the state of Mississippi. In 2020, the motel rooms were demolished for a parking lot. The sign was removed in 2022 for restoration and reinstalled in 2024. The canopy and office/restaurant building were preserved, gutted, and remodeled for a restaurant which now houses the Hen and Egg. For more, see this website. [map]

former Travel Inn [gone]
Meridian, MS
The former Travel Inn was designed by Chris Risher, Sr. and built in 1957. The building later housed a Super Inn. It was demolished by 2021. For more, see this website.
