former DX station
Lamont, IA
This former DX station is just a repair shop now. It was built in 1931 and was always a DX. There must have been a larger, diamond-shaped porcelain enamel sign on the pole originally.

former Standard Oil station
Colo, IA
This former Standard Oil station was built in 1926. It is also known as the L&J station and the Reed-Niland station. It was part of a complex which included the L&J Cafe, later Niland's Cafe, and the Colo Cabin Camp which became the Colo Motel in the 1940s. In 1999, the Niland family donated these "Niland's Corner" buildings to the City of Colo. They have since been restored. The gas station and cafe were available for lease when these photos were taken in 2010. The motel was open. In 2011, the cafe reopened. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. [map]

former station
Mediapolis, IA
This former station appeared to be vacant when these photos were taken in 2010. [map]

former station
Sully, IA
This former station is referred to as the historic Deep Rock station. I don't know if it originally sold that brand of gas. The building appears to be from the 1920s or 1930s. It was restored and is maintained by the local Garden Thyme Club.

former Texaco station
Dakota City, IA
This former Texaco station, aka Ted Brown's Texaco, was built in the 1920s. The basement was used for bootlegging operations. The station was later used by Cities Service. The station was restored by Peter D. Holt and is now known as Petro Pete's Texaco. The interior is a mini museum of gas station memorabilia. I don't know when the smaller building was constructed. It appears to be used for storage. [map]
