The vintage Twistee Treat in Sarasota was also known as Mel's Drive Thru. The deer-like figure on this building's roof might have been a leftover Christmas decoration that was left up year-round. There was also a polar bear in front of the building. The building had been closed and for sale since 2005. In 2009, the building was disassembled and put in storage in Bradenton, FL. While it appeared that the building sold on eBay for $7,050, I'm told that it is still for sale. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

If you know of any other Twistee Treat buildings not included at these three pages, please let me know. I'd also appreciate hearing about any that have been moved, changed names, or been modified.

The buildings below were apparently inspired by Twistee Treat.

Twirlees
Ocala, FL (now West Chester, OH)
This Twirlees mobile unit is a scaled-down Twistee Treat building. The unit was produced by Twirlees, the Canadian company that bought out Twistee Treat in the 1990s. The company was hoping to franchise in the States. However, I believe they have stopped producing these units and are now focused on a larger, truck version.

This Ocala unit was sold and moved to Crossville, TN where it was expected to open in 2013. However, it was sold just a few months later to the owner of The Cone in West Chester, OH where there are several of these Twirlees units. [map]

A Twirlees unit opened in Houston, MO in 2015. It moved to a new location in town in 2016. It was gone by 2018.

I believe the Twirlees which operated from 2008-2010 in Chatham, ON, was the original unit. I don't know if it is in storage or if it was moved somewhere else.

ice cream stand
Carlsbad, CA
ice cream stand [gone]
Brooklyn, CT
Dar's Dairy Delight
Lakeside-Marblehead, OH
The ice cream stand in Carlsbad is located at the Flower Fields. It was probably inspired by Twistee Treat buildings.

This ice cream stand in Brooklyn was obviously inspired by Twistee Treat buildings. I don't know when it was built. The upper ice cream portion was made of spray foam. The stand was closed for the season when I took these photos in 2010. There were no signs indicating the name of the place. By 2011, this building was gone.

Dar's Dairy Delight is another simulated Twistee Treat. The building now houses the Purple Parrot Ice Cream Bar. [map]

Hob Nob Hot Dogs
Manteca, CA
Although Hob Nob Hot Dogs was never a Twistee Treat, it must have been inspired by their buildings. This giant cone seems to be made of concrete rather than fiberglass. As far as I know, there were never any Twistee Treat buildings in California. However, this one must have been inspired by them. Hob Nob Hot Dogs had been here since at least the 1990s. I don't know if this is the original name. It moved in 2021 and this building is now vacant. [map]

2023:
Seemoore's Ice Cream, aka Seemoore's Polar Parlor, opened in 2004. The stand must have been inspired by the Twistee Treat building design. It claims to be the world's tallest ice cream stand. [map]
