Rick's White Light Diner
Frankfort, KY
Rick's White Light Diner has been here since at least 1950. One source says it opened in the 1920s. The white porcelain enamel panels are very similar to those used at White Castles and White Towers. The "White Light System" lettering on the facade suggests there were other locations at one time. The interior features eight stools at the counter and a few tables. For more, see this website. Ferrell's Hamburgers
Hopkinsville, KY

2010:

2026:
Ferrell's Hamburgers opened in Owensboro, KY in 1929. This location opened in 1936. By the 1940s, a location in Madisonville opened. There were other locations in Bowling Green, Henderson, and Clarksville. The Cadiz and Madisonville locations are still operating. This sign was probably from the 1940s. In 2023, a corner of the sign was clipped by a truck. A new sign with LED strips and plastic letters was built. [map]

Ollie's Trolley
Louisville, KY
This Ollie's Trolley was the first one built, opening in 1973. Soon after that, other locations opened in Memphis, Nashville, and Atlanta. By 1976, there were more than 100 locations including a double trolley in Windsor, ON. However, the chain was defunct just a few years later. The only other still-operating location that I know of is in Cincinnati, OH. These small, trolley-like buildings are take-out only. [map]
