| Willie the Whale was built in 1964 by Richard Kishel's Art Forms Workshop in Muncie. The whale is 26 feet long and his blowhole originally sprayed water. He was originally installed in a pond at the Washington Park Children's Zoo in Indianapolis. In 1980, the Children's Zoo became the Indianapolis Zoo and Willie was moved to the Boogie Mountain water park. When that closed, the statue was moved to the Fun Spot Amusement Park & Zoo in Angola, IN which closed in 2008. In 2015, the statue was rescued by the city of Rushville and put on display at the Indianapolis Museum of Art's mini golf course. In 2018, Kokomo bought the statue from Rushville and began restoring it. Willie was installed in Foster Park in 2019. For more, see this website. [map] |
