(hit "refresh" to get the most recent version of this page; click on photos for larger images)

The fiberglass Elephants shown on this page were originally produced by Ben Robinson of the Plycrete Mold Co. in the 1960s and 1970s. The original statue from which the molds was carved by Elmer Johnson. Molds were made from these fiberglass statues in order to produce aluminum copies.

The statues below are organized alphabetically by state.

Elephant
Peru, IN
This Spotted Elephant advertised for a Yello Wireless store. I believe the yellow and brown patterning was meant to resemble a giraffe. This photo is from 2007. The store closed in 2010 and I believe the statue is gone now.

Peru is known as the "Circus Capital of the World." The Elephant statue shown on the left above was installed in 2025 next to the Southside B&K drive-in. [map]

The Elephant statue shown on the right above was installed in 2023 at the Peru Circus Center Arena. The statue has been named Humphrey the Elephant. [map]

The Elephant in Portland is installed in front of the 21 Brix Winery. When this photo was taken in 2010, the elephant had wine barrels strapped to its sides. By 2013, the barrels were removed and the elephant was painted pink. Before moving to the winery, this elephant was located at Olde Chautauqua Farm's in Portland where he held cherries in his trunk. These Elephants in Moab are located at Hole N' The Rock. They have been there since 2007 and probably much longer than that. [map]

This Elephant in Norfolk stood in front of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, headquarters when this photo was taken in 2009. The statue depicted a shackled baby elephant. It was created to protest the treatment of circus elephants. I believe the statue was acquired by PETA in 2002. The statue was moved around the country to various cities. In 2013, it was on display in Washington, DC. I don't know if PETA still uses the statue.

The Elephant in Barboursville was moved here from Michigan around 1970 by the owner of a gift shop. The store is gone but the elephant remains. It is considered a landmark by local residents. [map]
