This six-foot-tall Gold King Cake Baby is displayed inside the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. The papier mache statue was built by the Barth Brothers in 2000. It was displayed in Jackson Square during New Year's celebrations, with the baby symbolizing the new year. The statue was replaced with a fiberglass version in 2015 and this one was donated to the museum. It was displayed as the centerpiece of an exhibit about the special foods eaten during New Year's. Later, the museum painted the baby gold to resemble a king cake baby. For more, see this website.
