The Captain Benny's chain was founded in 1969. The company clains they were established in 1967. However, the first location shown below opened in 1969. I believe the original name was Captain Benny's Half Shell Oyster Bar. There are now six locations in the Houston area and one in Austin. The buildings are meant to resemble oyster boats.

Captain Benny's
Houston, TX
This is the original Captain Benny's location on South Main. I believe Captain Benny's bought this building in 1969 from a previous business. [map]

Captain Benny's
Stafford, TX
This Captain Benny's is located just southwest of Houston. [map]

Captain Benny's
Austin, TX
This is the only Captain Benny's located in Austin. Does anyone know when this one opened? [map]

Floyd's Cajun Seafood House
Webster, TX
Floyd's Cajun Seafood House has two other locations in Pearland and Beaumont. This is the only one with a boat-shaped building. It opened in 2004. It is either a former Captain Benny's or a close copy. [map]

El Barquito
Houston, TX
El Barquito Oyster Bar
Roma, TX
El Barquito in Houston was part of the Playa Azul Seafood & Oyster Bar restaurant when this photo was taken in 2011. This boat was built around 2008 when it housed the Pirate's Seafood Boat. As of 2014, the building was vacant. It was still vacant in 2015. By 2017, it was housing the Merengue restaurant. [map]

The El Barquito Oyster Bar in Roma was built in 2015. I don't believe it is related to the El Barquito in Houston. [map]

Dry Dock Oyster Bar
San Antonio, TX
The Dry Dock Oyster Bar was built in 1982. [map]

Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar [gone]
Houston, TX
I'm told that Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar was founded by a former worker at Captain Benny's. I believe this boat-shaped building was built in the 1970s. It was demolished in 2016.

Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar
Houston, TX
This Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar was operating by 2008. I don't know when these restaurants were originally built. I believe they are all independently operated. [map]

Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar
Katy, TX
This Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar has also been around since at least 2008. [map]

Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar
Houston, TX
Pelican Cove [gone]
McAllen, TX
This Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster Bar was built in 2015. [map]

I don't know if the Pelican Cove restaurant was ever a Captain Tom's location or just had a similar design. This photo is from 2008. In 2015, the building was vacant. It was demolished in 2017.
