Nagle's Apothecary Café
Ocean Grove, NJ
Nagle's Apothecary Café opened in 1901 as a pharmacy/ice cream parlor. It is now a full-scale restaurant. The interior features the original mahogany pharmacy cases. There is also an ice cream take-out window. For more, see this website. [map]

former Richman's Ice Cream
Sharptown, NJ
Richman's Ice Cream was established as the Richman's Dairy in 1894. The cast concrete Art Deco façade is from 1947. An upstairs ballroom was later converted into office space. The plant stopped making ice cream here in 1994 but the restaurant remained open. These photos are from 2003. The restaurant closed in 2010 and the building has been vacant since then. [map]

Holsten's Brookdale Confectionery
Bloomfield, NJ
Holsten's Brookdale Confectionery opened in 1939. This ice cream parlor features homemade ice cream and candies, as well as sandwiches and other food. These photos are from 2007. Shortly after that, a neon sign was added to the front of the building. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Lapp's Olympia Dairy Bar
Carneys Point, NJ
Lapp's Olympia Dairy Bar opened in 1956 and still has the original signs and building. I believe it has been closed since 2021. For more, see this website. [map]

Cliff's Dairy Maid
Ledgewood, NJ
Cliff's Dairy Maid, featuring homemade ice cream, opened in 1975. There has been an ice cream stand here since the mid-1940s. [map]

Polar Bear Ice Cream
Keansburg, NJ
Polar Bear Ice Cream has been here since at least the 1960s. The giant ice cream cone on the roof was very similar to several in New York. These photos are from 2009. Around 2018, the ice cream cone was replaced with a sundae. [map]
