El Paso, TX
This Kress was designed by Edward F. Sibbert and opened in 1938. The design and details incorporate styles from Mayan, Indian, Moorish, and Mexican cultures. The store closed in 1980 and was occupied by a McCrory store until 1992. The building has been vacant since 2006. There were two early Kress stores in El Paso, both destroyed by fire. This Kress was designed by Edward F. Sibbert and built in 1936. The store closed in 1960 when a new store opened in the Fort Worth Shopping Center. The building now houses the Kress Lofts. For more, see this website. [map]

This Kress was built in 1924. The store closed in 1980. The upper part of the building was converted into lofts in 1993. [map]

This Kress was designed by Edward F. Sibbert and built in 1939. The store closed in 1974. The building now houses the Landon Winery City Bistro. [map]

This Kress store evidently later became a Woolworth. The peeling paint on the sign reveals the original red underneath. The building later housed Home Furniture. It now houses an antiques store. [map]

This Kress building was designed by Seymour Burrell and built in 1913. This was the second Kress store built in Houston. Since 1983, the building has been home to the St. Germain Lofts. The Kress nameplate was removed from the building at that point. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [map]

This Kress was built in 1939. The building was renovated in 2006. It housed lofts and the Osaka Sushi Bar since around 2008. It now houses a beauty salon and a home decor store. [map]
