O.K. Tire Stores

O.K. Tires sold franchises to pre-existing tire stores and these signs were installed at that point. The company was established in the 1930s and there were more than 1,000 franchisees in the U.S. and Canada. The company began to fall apart in 1962 when many locations switched to what is now known as Big O Tires. By 1977, the company had folded and the only official O.K. Tire stores left are in Canada. However, there are still some surviving signs as shown below.

The Kelly's O.K. Tire Store sign is probably from the 1960s or 1970s. This photo is from 2013. The shop's building was remodeled in 2014 and the sign is gone now.

This O.K. Tire Store has been here since at least the 1940s. This sign is probably from the 1950s or 1960s. [map]

This building and signs at this O.K. Tire Store appear to be from the 1960s. Around 2020, this locations signs were removed and replace with boring, modern signs.

This O.K. Tire Store has been here since 1939. The sign is probably from the 1940s or 1950s. The sign was repainted around 2014 and the neon tubing removed. For more, see this website. [map]

This O.K. Tire Store sign has been adapted for the O.K. Country Feed & Supply store. I don't know if there was an O.K. Tire store here previously or if the sign was brought here from somewhere else. [map]

O.K. Tire Store [gone]
Aberdeen, SD
This O.K. Tire Store was part of a nationwide chain. This sign's O.K. letters probably had neon originally. These photos are from 2008. By 2012, the building had been repainted and the signs removed. The building now houses Rod's Deals on Wheels, a used car dealer.


Jim's O.K. Tire Store
Wellington, TX
Jim's O.K. Tire Store has been here since at least the early 1950s. This sign must have had neon originally. [map]
