Zagar Murals

(hit "refresh" to get the most recent version of this page; click on photos for larger images)

Isaiah Zagar graduated from Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY) in 1960, majoring in Graphics and Painting. His mosaic work began in 1969. Tiny pieces of mirror, broken tile and found objects cover entire walls of residential and retail buildings in the South Street section of Philadelphia, PA, most of them within a 10-12 block area.

For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Below are photos from several buildings in the vicinity of 10th & South Streets.

Below are photos of murals on the walls near 12th Street & Fitzwater. For a complete neighborhood mural map, see this page.

Shown below is the Eyes Gallery which Isaiah and his wife opened in 1968. The store continues to sell folk art in what has become the hip South Street neighborhood.
