Roake's
Milwaukie, OR
Roake's opened in 1938 as Jiffy Way Lunch. In the 1940s, the place was known as known as Long John's. It became Roake's in the late 1970s. The Dachshund sign is a reference to the stand's foot-long hot dogs. I don't know how old that sign is. I'm not sure if the Coca-Cola sign is new or impeccably restored. [map]

former Linnton Family Cafe
Portland, OR
Burgerville [gone]
Beaverton, OR
The Linnton Family Cafe building and sign were adapted for a Subway restaurant around 2009. The Subway had closed by 2018. By 2022, it was housing a cannabis store. For more, see this website. [map]

The Burgerville chain was established as Burgerville USA in Vancouver, WA in 1961. This location was built in 1969. There are now about 40 locations in Washington and Oregon. I believe this was the only vintage location left. It closed in 2019 and the building now houses a meat market. The signs are gone.

Polar King
Gresham, OR
Polar King opened here in 1952 and the signs were installed then. These photos are from 2015. The sign was repainted around 2019. In 2024, the plywood bear sign was removed during a reroofing project. They are now in storage at the Gresham Historical Society. They will eventually be restored and put on display there. [map]
