The Daily Times building was constructed in 1939 and is still used by the newspaper. [map]

The Beacon-News Building was faced with mint green vitrolite tiles. There was originally black vitrolite along the bottom of the building. It was probably built in the 1930s. This photo is from 2010. While the building and the newspaper are still there, in 2012, the vitrolite facade was removed and destroyed. In 2017, the building itself was demolished.

The Municipal Building was built in 1930 as the Illinois Terminal Railroad. The train station closed in 1950. The building housed the police department from the 1960s until 1994. The original incised lettering for the "Illinois Terminal Railroad System" was changed at that point. For more, see this website. [map]

Illinois National Guard Building

This Illinois National Guard Building was built in 1939. The same design was used in Champaign, IL, Elgin, IL, and Urbana, IL. There are other similar Art Deco examples in this Illinois section. [map]

The Clarence Gerdes House was designed by Charles Behrensmeyer and built in 1939. It was built with just steel and concrete. [map]

Earnest Chatten House

The Earnest Chatten House was designed by Charles Behrensmeyer and built in 1939. In 1967, the building began housing a Boy Scouts of America office. I believe the building was sold around 2019 and now appears to be a residence again. [map]
