Dentzel Carousel
Ontario Beach Park
Rochester, NY
The Ontario Beach Park Carousel (aka "The Duchess") was designed by Gustav Dentzel and built in 1905. It has always been at this location and is the sole remaining ride fromn the Ontario Beach Amusement Park (the "Coney Island of Western New York"). The two-level carousel features 22 jumping horses, 11 standing horses, 19 menagerie figures (including 3 cats, 1 deer, 1 giraffe, 1 goat, 1 lion, 2 mules, 3 ostriches, 3 pigs, 3 rabbits, 1 tiger), and 2 chariots. There is an incredible (and loud!) Stinson organ from 1985. For more photos, see these websites: 1 and 2.
