This Carousel is located at Pioneer Village. It was built in 1879 and is believed to be the oldest steam-operated carousel in the world. It is not known where this carousel was located originally. It was installed in Pontiac, IL from 1905-1955. It has been here since 1955. The carousel was built by Armitage Herschell and has figures from various carvers including Dentzel, Philadelphia Toboggan Company, and Herschell Spillman. There are 17 horses, two goats, an elk, a giraffe, a deer, a camel, a tiger, a zebra, and two chariots.
