Over-the-Jumps Carousel
Little Rock, AR
The Over-the-Jumps Carousel is located at the Little Rock Zoo. It was built as a traveling carousel by the Spillman Engineering Company. It first appeared at the 1924 Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock. This is the last "over-the-jumps" carousel known to exist, so named because of its undulating track. The horses remain stationary while the track moves up and down. It is believed only four of this type were built. There are 40 horses and four chariots. The carousel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
