Goodyear
Topeka, KS
Goodyear Tires [gone]
Red Level, AL
Goodyear Tires
Woodward, OK
This Goodyear sign in Topeka is located at a tire production plant. The building was constructed in 1944. Goodyear bought the facility in 1946. This sign might be from that time. It probably had neon originally. [map]

This Red Level Goodyear sign hung from the side of a former garage building. This photo is from 2010. By 2013, the sign was gone.

This Goodyear sign in Woodward is no longer associated with any nearby business. It apparently had a neon border originally. [map]

Billingsley Tire, Inc.
Lemoore, CA
Billingsley Tire, Inc. was established in 1957. The shop features a neon diamond shaped Goodyear sign. There are also Goodyear porcelain enamel letters on the side of the building. [map]

Alligood's Garage
Washington, NC
Alligood's Garage was probably a combination repair shop and gas station at one time. The building appeared vacant when these photos were taken in 2010. There is an Alligood's Mechanical Service elsewhere in town. So, it appears the company is still around but moved at some point. [map]

Pete's Service is a former gas station. This Goodyear sign is on the lot which features a vast collection of unrestored, vintage gas pumps. [map]

McElroy Tire, Inc. [gone]
Tulsa, OK
McElroy Tire, Inc. opened here in 1931. McElroy's closed in 2009 and the building was demolished in 2010. The Goodyear pylon sign was reworked at some point with the McElroy name. The sign was saved by the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture. The organization hopes to display it somewhere in town. It was still in storage in 2012. For more, see this website.

Crestview Service Center
Los Angeles, CA
The Crestview Service Center opened in 1950. The sign features three types of lighting: chasing bulbs, a neon border, and backlit plastic. The only other sign that I know of is (or was) in Dearborn, MI which has the backlit letters but not the neon or bulbs. For more, see this website. [map]

Goodyear
Fontana, CA
Goodyear
Buena Park, CA
This Goodyear location in Fontana has an old sign tucked away at the south entrance. This business is part of the Certified Tire & Service Centers chain featuring Goodyear Tires. There are more than 40 locations in California. [map]

This Goodyear location in Buena Park may have had a neon pylon sign originally like the one above in Tulsa. It is now backlit plastic. This photo is from 2013. In 2016, the building and sign were painted brown. [map]

Marina Tire
Los Angeles, CA
Marina Tire opened in 1965. This building appears to be from then. The sign on top of the pylon may have had neon panels originally. [map]

Kahn & Keville
San Francisco, CA
Kahn & Keville was established in 1912 at a different location. This building is from 1935. The two neon signs were built in 1958. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

former Goodyear Tire
Whittier, CA
This former Goodyear Tire building now houses Haendiges Plumbing. Haendiges Plumbing was established in 1937. I don't know when the company moved to this building. [map]

Goodyear Tires
Akron, OH
The Goodyear Tires sign shown in the top row above is composed entirely of incandescent bulbs. The neon sign shown in the bottom row is installed on a building across the street. It was built later for cars passing in the opposite direction. The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was founded in Akron in 1898. Goodyear Hall, the company's headquarters, was built from 1918-1920. The first rooftop sign was installed sometime between 1926 and 1928. The neon letters were installed on steel scaffolding. This photo from 1934 shows what that sign looked like. That sign remained until 1939 or 1940 when it was replaced with an all neon sign similar to the one that is there today. It included the Goodyear flag above the letters. It also included the word "TIRES". That sign was there until at least 1951. Today's bulb sign was built sometime between 1954 and 1963. The Goodyear letters and "Wingfoot" are composed of about 700 yellow bulbs. The sign flashed "Go, Go, Goodyear" until at least the late 1990s. In 2001, new flashing bulb letters reading "On the Wings of" were installed at the top of the bulb and neon signs. They were removed from the bulb sign by 2012 just before this photo was taken. I don't know when the neon sign shown in the bottom row was built. In 2013, Goodyear moved to a new location. In 2015, the building was being adapted for residential and commercial space. There are plans to eventually relight the rooftop sign with LED bulbs. For more, see this website. [map]

Goodyear
Columbus, OH
Goodyear
Winthrop Harbor, IL
This Goodyear sign in Columbus is installed in front of A & A New & Used Tires. I don't believe it is lit at night. [map]

This Goodyear sign in Winthrop Harbor is located at Wenzel's Automotive Service & Tire Center. [map]

Goodyear Tires
San Jose, CA
This Goodyear sign looks just like the one in Columbus above. However, the "Tires" panel appears to have been tacked on. [map]

Goodyear Auto Service Center
Huntsville, AL
Abe & Doc's
Goodyear Service Center
Batavia, IL
The Goodyear Auto Service Center and Abe & Doc's Goodyear Service Center features nicely preserved, embossed plastic signs. I believe Abe & Doc's opened here in 1961. Their sign might be from then. There is another sign like this in Gadsden, AL. [Huntsville map]; [Batavia map]

former Goodyear sign
Phoenix, AZ
Jack's Tire & Auto Service
Sturgis, MI
The former Goodyear sign in Phoenix has been there since at least 1964. I don't know when the giant sign was covered up but it has advertised for a variety of businesses over the years. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map]

Jack's Tire & Auto Service was established in 1959. This building and pole sign appear to be from then. [map]

Goodyear Auto Service Center
Pontiac, MI
This Goodyear Auto Service Center and sign might be from the 1950s. [map]

Goodyear
Lansing, MI
This Goodyear Auto Service Center is directly across the street from a Firestone dealer. Both have 1950s era neon signs. [map]
