The 777 Motel has been here since at least the 1960s. It is located at 777 S Virginia St. The sign was originally more colorful. The balls were three different colors and the "motel" panel was painted blue. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. [map]

The Golden West Motor Lodge sign appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. The motel was closed and fenced off for many years until it was finally demolished. The sign is now in the hands of a private collector. The night photo above is from 2008. For more, see this website.

Barnes Radio Service opened here since 1941. These photos are from 2008. In 2010, Nightmare Studios Tattoo moved into the building and adapted the sign shown on the left. The neon was removed. The smaller sign on the right was repainted and the neon removed. For more, see this website. [map]

The Mid-town Motel & Lounge opened in 1951. The Lounge was recently known as Val's Midtown Lounge. It is now Shifters bar. The motel sign appears to be from the 1950s. The lounge sign might be from the 1960s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

The Hi Ho Motor Lodge was built in the early 1950s. This sign appears to be from then. The sign is now painted a brownish red. [map]

The 7/11 Motor Lodge was built around 1960. This sign appeared to be from then. The sign's cube, representing a die, probably revolved originally. The sign panels were repainted from blue to brown sometime between 2009 and 2012. Around 2022, the motel was demolished and the sign was gone.

The El Tavern Motel was originally known as the El Tavern Auto Court. It probably opened in the 1920s or 1930s. This sign is probably from the 1950s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

The Tahoe Motel sign is probably from the 1960s. [map]

The Everybody's Inn Motel was built around 1930. It may have started out as an auto camp. This sign may be from the 1940s or 1950s. By 2017, the property was surrounded by chain link fencing. It is being converted into senior housing. The sign was still there in 2019, as was the chain link. [map]

The Gold 'N Silver Inn Restaurant opened in 1956. This sign is from at least the 1960s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

The Donner Inn was built in 1950. The sign was probably built in the 1960s. There was another sign here originally which was probably from the 1950s. In 2017, the motel was demolished and the sign was removed by a developer. It was replicated by YESCO and is now installed at the Glow Plaza Festival Grounds. Neon was added to the sign's text panels. The readerboard with the stylized arrow are gone now. [map]

The Ben's Fine Wine sign featured a giant Dewar's whiskey bottle. It probably revolved originally. These photos are from 2008. By 2013, the building had been expanded and this rooftop sign was gone.

Society Cleaners [gone]

2008: 2014:
The Society Cleaners signs appeared to be from the 1950s. The business was in the process of moving to a new building in 2008 when these photos were taken. These signs are gone now. However, the "Society" panel which was located along the edge of the roof was saved and is now displayed inside the St. James Infirmary bar.
