Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts (page 1)

While not Art Deco or Streamline Moderne in design, I'm including this motel chain here since these buildings are from the 1940s and there's no better section to put them in.

There were more than two dozen Alamo Plaza Hotel Court locations built in Texas and the Southeast. In addition to the locations shown below, there were others in Oklahoma City, OK; Tyler, TX; Little Rock, AR; & Gulfport, MS; Shreveport & New Orleans, LA; Nashville & Memphis, TN; and Raleigh & Charlotte, NC. The chain was founded in Waco, TX in 1929. The hotel's façade was based on the Alamo in San Antonio, TX. For more, see this website.

American Inn
Baton Rouge, LA

2019:
This location, now known as the American Inn, was built in 1941 and is still in recognizable shape although several of the main entryways have been filled in. The sign from 1959 was removed in 2004. By 2011, the awnings and other details on the facade had been removed. The remaining windows had also been plastered over. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Santa Fe Villas
Atlanta, GA
This location was built in 1948. In the 1990s, the place was renamed the Santa Fe Villas, the facade was altered, and the buildings were renovated by the City as housing for homeless people. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts [gone]

2018:
This Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts was built in the 1940s. The sign is from around 1959. The motel was still open in 2007 and the sign was still lit. However, by 2009, the place was boarded up and surrounded by chain link fencing. In 2010, the buildings were demolished. The sign was supposed to be "adapted" for the new development which was planned for the site. However, in 2013, the sign was disassembled and put in storage. Alamo Plaza Motor Hotel
Houston, TX

2011:
2018:
Renamed later the Alamo Plaza Motor Hotel, this location was built in 1948. There was once a pool in front of the building. The building seems to be used for low-cost housing now. In 2016, the buildings were painted red. For more, see this website. [map]
