Gray's Ice Cream
Tiverton, RI
Gray's Ice Cream was started in 1923. Milk from Tiverton was taken to Fall River, MA, made into ice cream and brought back to Mrs. Annie Gray who sold it from the back window of her house. Eventually, space was added for an ice cream parlor and she began making the ice cream on-site. The flavors were vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and coffee. When Annie died in 1938, her daughter, took over and increased the number of flavors to twelve. The place changed hands several times but it has been owned and run by Marilyn Dennis since 1981. She makes all the ice cream herself (more than 40 flavors). In 2002, Gray's opened Gray’s on the Dock, a stand in Bristol, RI. [map]
