Dinosaur Gardens Prehistoric Zoo
Ossineke, MI
The Dinosaur Gardens Prehistoric Zoo was the creation of Paul Domke. Construction began in 1936 with the last dinosaur completed in 1974. There are 26 prehistoric birds and dinosaurs along the park's mile-long trail. Domke based the animals on sketches of skeletons he made at the Field Museum in Chicago and the Smithsonian in DC. The brontosaurus, the largest statue, is about 80 feet long. It was built from 1949-1951. There is a statue of Christ at the entrance. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]
