|Club Hippo was built in 1939 as the Chanticleer cocktail lounge. There was originally a rooster on top of the weathervane. The Chanticleer closed in the 1950s. The building was then used as a restaurant and catering hall. It has been Club Hippo, a gay bar, since 1972. [map]|
|This apartment building is one of many Streamline Moderne buildings in Greenbelt which was originally a planned community, built and incorporated in 1937 as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal. The initial residents of Greenbelt were selected by income level (low) and their willingness to actively participate in the community. This apartment building is directly across the street from the Roosevelt Shopping Center and the Greenbelt Theatre. [map]|
