Bessie the Cow
Janesville, WI

2001:

2007:
2008:
Bessie the Cow was installed in front of the Oasis Restaurant, Motel and Cheese Shop in the 1960s. In 2006, the businesses closed and the buildings were demolished. Bessie was saved through public outcry. When the photos above were taken in 2007, construction was going on all around the statue. After a complete restoration, the statue was returned to the site in 2008. For more, see this website. [map]

The Cow in Bongards was originally installed across the street from the Bongards' Creameries store. The cow was moved by crane next to the store in 2008 for safer photo-ops. [map]

The Cow in Manitowoc stands in front of the Cedar Crest Dairy factory and ice cream store. She is nicknamed Bernice. She is dressed up for various holidays including Sputnikfest. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [map]

Cow
Waukesha, WI
Cow
Sioux Falls, SD
This Cow in Waukesha, aka Gertrude, was installed in front of the Golden Guernsey Dairy when these photos were taken in 2007. You could only photograph her through the fence since the company was very tight about security. The dairy closed in 2013 and the plant was sold to Lifeway. The Cow statue remains. [map]

Cow
Middlebush, NJ
2007: 2009:
This Cow has either had the horns removed remove or never had them. The statue was brown and white, then was painted black and white, and then back to brown and white. Sometime between 2007 and 2009, this cow was repainted black and white. In the 1960s, the statue was taken to parades and store openings to promote the Cream O'Land Dairy. When it was not on the road, it was located at the dairy's store. The store also had a 10-foot-tall rotating milk bottle. When Cream O'Land's building was demolished in the late 1970s or early 1980s, this statue was moved to this dairy farm. It was subjected to pranks and being knocked over. Today, it stands way back in the paddock with live cows. [map]

Gertrude the Guernsey
Rockford, IL
Cow
Wilkes-Barre, PA
Gertrude the Guernsey stands at the Children's Farm which is part of Lockwood Park. [map]

The Cow in Wilkes-Barre previously stood in front of Gorman's Dairy. The statue seems to be at the same location now but the Dairy building is gone. The cow is or was nicknamed "Dinah Three-O-Ninah", a reference to her location on Route 309. The cow was multi-colored for several years but was repainted back to its original brown and white around 2002. Since these photos from 2004, development has sprung up around the car. She is holding her ground behind a white fence. [map]

Des Moines, IA
These Cows are nicknamed Annie and Eric. Annie is 14 feet tall and has been here in front of the Anderson Erickson Dairy since 1966. In 1977, she was restored and joined by her nearly six-foot-tall calf. There are also a couple of fiberglass cow heads on the side of the building. [first photo thanks Glenda Campbell] [map]

Clarion, PA
The Cow in Montgomery is installed next to the Garrett Coliseum. The statue has a metal badge on her leg identifying the producer as Sculptured Advertising and the serial number of #259. I believe this statue has been there since 2013. The statue was refurbished in 2022. [map]
