St. Louis Carousel
Chesterfield, MO
The St. Louis Carousel was built in 1920 by the Dentzel Company. It was originally installed in 1929 in the Forest Park Highlands amusement park in St. Louis. The amusement park was destroyed by fire in 1963 but the carousel was unharmed. The carousel operated in Sylvan Springs County Park from 1965-1979. It was then restored and relocated to its present location in Faust Park in 1987. The carousel features 46 jumping horses, 16 standing horses, four reindeer, and two chariots. There are also some other carousel figures and chariot carvings displayed on the walls. In 2006, there were two organs on display (bottom row of photos above). However, they were not there when these other photos were taken in 2010. For more, see this website.
