Parker Carousel
Abilene, KS
This steam-powered Parker Carousel was built in 1901. It features 24 jumping horses and four chariots. There is also a Wurlitzer military band organ. The horses are installed on rocking mechanisms rather than poles. This carousel is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The carousel was installed in Abilene until 1959. It operated in Riverton, WY from 1959-1976. At that time, the carousel was brought back to Abilene and restored. It is installed at the Heritage Center of Dickinson County. For more, see this website.
