|The Smithsonian Carousel was built by Allan Herschell in 1947. It was originally located in Baltimore, MD and moved here in 1981. The carousel has 60 horses and several additions: two chariots from an earlier machine, a modern dragon and a replica of a spinner tub from a 1910 carousel. This carousel replaced a worn-out 1922 carousel that was installed here in 1967. For more photos, see these websites: 1 and 2.|
