Smithsonian Carousel
Washington, DC
The Smithsonian Carousel was built by Allan Herschell in 1947. It was originally located in Baltimore, MD and moved here in 1981. The carousel has 60 horses and several additions: two chariots from an earlier machine, a modern dragon and a replica of a spinner tub from a 1910 carousel. This carousel replaced a worn-out 1922 carousel that was installed here in 1967. For more photos, see these websites: 1 and 2.
