Balboa Park Carousel
San Diego, CA
The Balboa Park Carousel is a Herschell-Spillman from 1910. It was originally located in Los Angeles' Luna Park. In 1914, the carousel was moved to Balboa Park where it has been in several locations. The carousel features menagerie figures and a functioning brass ring machine. The figures include one camel, two cats, one deer, two dogs, one dragon, two frogs, two giraffes, one goat, one lion, two ostriches, two pigs, two roosters, one tiger, two zebras, and one stork. The Castle Park Carousel features a mix of original and replica figures on a Dentzel machine from 1905. There are 30 horses, 20 other animals, and two chariots. The carousel was originally installed at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. It was installed at Knotts's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA in the 1950s. In 1985, the carousel was moved here.
